The Chase (Briar U #1) by Elle Kennedy
The Chase, first in the Briar U series, continues the story of hot hockey players and sassy women they can’t help falling in love with.
It tells the story of Dean Di Laurentis’ sister Summer Di Laurentis and Collin Fitzgerald who is one of Dean’s hockey team players. However, Collin Fitzgerald isn’t like most hockey players, he’s not looking for fame and money and he’s an introvert. The real dream is becoming a developer of video games. He’s a tattooed hunk who shy’s away from the spotlight. He struggles with emotional abuse from his past and struggles so hard to let anyone in. He wishes he didn’t need Summer.
In college, I’ve made more of an effort to be social, but deep down I’m still the guy who wants to remain invisible. Summer is the most visible person I’ve ever met.
Summer Di Laurentis. All the spotlight ever does is follow her, even when she doesn’t want it to. Regardless of their differences in personality, they can’t help but feel the attraction to each like crazy. Their wild attraction leads to misunderstandings, lack of communication and the push and pull of an amazing slow-burn romance.
They don’t like each other for personal reasons and when Summer has no choice but to move into Fitzy’s home with his two other roommates, one of which she’s already made out with, it makes for some awkward situations. it doesn’t help that the roommate she made out with is also very interested in Summer. Plenty of avoiding each other and arguments.
In my defence, I didn’t start this argument with a boner. I was genuinely pissed at her. I still am. Only now I’m also aroused.
When the two finally collide? DAAAMN! The sexual tension is HIGH. It is crazy hot and worth the wait.
The relationship that flourishes between Fitzy and Summer once they get passed all the bullshit is skin tingling and made me feel all gooey. This is why I loved NA romance! This book also deals with issues such as Summer’s ADHD, rape culture and emotional abuse. I really love how they were dealt with. I think Elle Kennedy did an amazing job talking about the issues and exploring them wonderfully.
She’s my desire, because I can’t take a step without wanting to be inside her. But most of all, she’s my heart.
I adored this book. It had all the elements of an amazing Elle Kennedy book, good ole sexy sweet angst filled with humour. I’m truly excited for this new series featuring a wonderful cast of new characters. I AM SO READY FOR BRENNA’S BOOK!
