As I’m reading this novel, I can’t help but wonder why MTV landed on this particular series.
You can’t see me, but I’m doing a happy dance. Why? Because this chapter was blessedly short. Last week there was a heart stopping horse chase with demon-wolves. Which to be honest, might be a fun scene in the MTV series. This week…
We have a new character. A new character that took way too long to introduce and a chapter that included very little dialogue.
The chapter opens with the line…
Before time became time recorded, he was there. Before men and women, before nations and governments, before all the history of humankind, he was there.
It goes on from there. He’s very old. He’s seen a lot. The world changed around him, but he was a reminder of the good that was lost. He protects his gardens, the last of the old world to serve the new world. He is the keeper of the seed. The seed of the first world, the old world. He planted this seed in the new world so the old world lives on.
I think that’s what those three pages said. Really…it’s a bit of a blur. You might want to wikipedia it.
The mysterious “he” described, is really the King of the Silver River, and he gets three pages of that set up before he approaches and welcomes Wil and Amberle to his land. They sense that he’s a good guy, he promises them peace and safety.
Then he puts them to sleep. Hmmm…maybe I need the good King of the Silver River to pay me a visit. He’s a great sleep aid, apparently.
The chapter ends with Wil dreaming and then turning to Amberle to share his feelings, but uh oh….she’s gone.
If you’re watching The Shannara Chronicles on MTV, let us know what you think!
