FILTHY GODS! WOW! FILTHY INDEED!
R. Scarlett knocked it out of the park with a god damn novella!
Filthy Gods, the prequel to the American Gods series (not that one) is everything! The series surrounds a group of gentlemen known as the American Gods. They are the rich and successful, secret society of men who rule their world together. This prequel is a novella and they are usually a hit or miss with me, there either isn’t enough character development or the story falls flat. This is definitely not the case for Filthy Gods. Filthy Gods is a forbidden romance which is a sexy and sensual read without skipping out on the emotion. A filthy blend indeed. This book is told in dual POV of Juliette Monroe and Nathaniel Radcliffe who are rivals at Yale, competing to be the best in their class.
“You’re the only one who makes me furious.”
“Good, I’m the only bastard who gets your wrath.”
But Juliette has a secret which Nathaniel has gotten his hands on.
Juliette is not the rich girl her classmates think she is. Clutching at her barely-there scholarship, she’s trying to make some money ends up working at the country club Nathaniel’s family owns and ends up bumping into him. Dazed and surprised, she had no idea it belonged to his family or she would have never worked there in the first place. Now that Nathaniel knows her secret, they make a deal to keep things quiet.
A secret affair till the end of the summer.
However, with secrets comes conflict from those around them. The threat of being caught means Juliette loses everything. Their chemistry is sky high. The intensity took my breath away and left me wanting so much more than just a novella. I could have read a couple of more hundred pages of Nathaniel and Juliette. Their romance was EVERYTHING!
“He was already inside me. Consuming me. Burning me. He had been for years and now I was laid out in front of him to feast on.”
This novella also introduces us to the characters which are taking the stage in the next three books. The friendship between Nathaniel, Gabe, James and Arsen was amazing. These men are so incredibly loyal to each other and the people they love. I cannot wait to see more of them in their own books and each others. I love this world that Scarlett has created and have become enamoured just through this one novella. If this is how in love I am after one novella I truly cannot wait for the full novels.
Overall, I recommend Filthy God’s highly! If you love a quick steamy forbidden romance and want to be immersed into a universe which is looking to be delectable, this is the novella to start with. I am so ready for more.
