Fifty Shades in Fifty Days or a Booknista Writer’s Descent into one of the Bestselling Books of all Time: Chapter 26
We’re down to the final chapter of 50 Shades of Grey.
Thanks so much for going on this journey with us. If you’re just now joining us, go back to 50 Shades of Grey, chapter one. Grab some wine. Relax and read on.
Par for the course with 50 Shades of Grey…Ana wakes up in Christian’s bed.
She hears the piano and slinks out to listen to him play. He really is good at everything. They begin talking about when and why he learned to play the piano. This segues into a suggestion of sex on the piano, and then unfortunately, talk of the contract.
They still have a lot to figure out in that area. It’s the punishing aspect that really has Ana unhappy. The slapping, spanking, riding crop, type stuff. I get it, girl, I get it… Me, too.
Christian has revised the contract, taking out some of the more crazy stuff like when she must eat. But, there’s that thing about obedience. Ana rolls her eyes at that one. That angers him. Oops…I mean turns him on. To further antagonize him, she bites her lip. They’re playful for a bit and then it’s deep conversation about why he NEEDS to hurt her.
Ana wants Christian to show her how much it can hurt. She’s trying to understand him, and also how much she can take. I have a VERY bad feeling about this. And, it’s the last chapter. Never a good thing. He pulls her into the Red Room of Pain.
I close my eyes, bracing myself for the blow. It comes hard, snapping across my backside, and the bite of the belt is everything I feared. I cry out involuntarily, and take a huge gulp of air.
“Count, Anastasia!” he commands.
“One!” I shout at him, and it sounds like an expletive.
He hits me again, and the pain pulses and echoes along the line of the belt. Holy shit… that smarts.
“Two!” I scream. It feels so good to scream.
His breathing is ragged and harsh, whereas mine is almost nonexistent as I desperately scrabble around my psyche looking for some internal strength. The belt cuts into my flesh again.
“Three!” Tears spring unwelcome into my eyes. Jeez –this is harder than I thought –so much harder than the spanking. He’s not holding anything back.
“Four!” I yell as the belt bites me again, and now the tears are streaming down my face. I don’t want to cry. It angers me that I am crying. He hits me again.
“Five.” My voice is more a choked, strangled sob, and in this moment I think I hate him. One more, I can do one more. My backside feels as if it’s on fire.
Six,” I whisper as the blistering pain cuts across me again, and I hear him drop the belt behind me, and he’s pulling me into his arms, all breathless and compassionate… and I want none of him.
“Let go… no… ” And I find myself struggling out of his grasp, pushing him away. Fighting him.
“Don’t touch me!” I hiss. I straighten and stare at him, and he’s watching me as if I might bolt, gray eyes wide, bemused. I dash the tears angrily out of my eyes with the backs of my hands, glaring at him.
“This is what you really like? Me, like this?” I use the sleeve of the bathrobe to wipe my nose.
He gazes at me warily.
“Well, you are one fucked-up son of a bitch.”
Yes. Well said. #Ouch
In all fairness, she said she was up for it. She wanted his worst. And she got it. Christian is torn, shocked and distraught. Ana runs to her room. She loves him but cannot do this, not at all. And, she feels bad about it. Will he forgive her? Can she forgive him? So complicated, this dating a hot somewhat crazy billionaire business.
He enters her room and snuggles her.
They lie like that for a long time, with his gift of Advil and arnica cream beside him. It’s not roses or chocolates, but this is Christian Grey. They both apologize to each other. It’s sweet. In the end, they just aren’t compatible. That’s the thing. He likes to beat her. She doesn’t like it. Love does not conquer all. It’s a very tearful breakup. They both don’t want it to end. But, this chapter must end.
Just like that, 50 Shades of Grey is over. Ana goes home and cries. Maybe bites her lip. Hard to say. If you’re super excited and need to know what happens next, here’s book two of the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy, 50 Shades Darker.
Mary Sue and I are going to do our new chapter by chapter review of the book, The Sword of Shannara. If you’re not familiar with this one, check it out. Here’s the cool thing, in January, MTV is premiering the TV series based on this book. We’ll be watching. And reading. Hope you will be, too!
