I loved Arcana Chronicles, book 3: Dead of Winter by Kresley Cole.
Let me start by saying Kresley Cole can do no wrong. No. Wrong. This third installment in the Arcana Chronicles was every bit as amazing as I was hoping it would be. I devoured it. And, let me also say, I am squarely in the corner of #TeamDeath. Let’s get that out there at the top!
Here’s the premise of the series to catch you up.
There’s a huge apocalypse type event that nearly destroys earth. This happens once so many hundred years and it’s devastating to humanity. Out of this event, different teenagers/young adults come into their powers as a character in the Tarot Card deck. There are major characters- called Major Arcana- and then minor characters called Minor Arcana. They make up the two groups in the Tarot deck. Some of the Major Arcana are; Fool, Death, Empress, World, Lovers and so many more. I found this great site that explains the true Tarot cards. This series is really around the Major Arcana. Each one has a set of powers.
In this third book, Evie The Empress, is torn between Death and Jack. Who’s Jack? You need to read the first two books! But, Jack is a mystery of sorts. Sure, he’s hot, smart and has a sexy cajun accent…but there’s something there that we don’t know yet. There’s more to him. Evie escaped Death’s castle in book 2, even though she is drawn to him and he is to her. They’ve had a bit of a crazy past that’s tough to get over. She escapes to find The Lovers, who have imprisoned Jack, her first love. Well, first love in THIS lifetime. 🙂 The Lovers in this case love to torture. You get the picture, poor Jack! I don’t want to spoil it, but her attempt to rescue Jack is pretty damn epic. She’ll do anything to get him, form shaky alliances and risk her life. But, she still has intense feelings for Death and he for her. All of the other characters are very leery of Death, given his past performance in these events. And, well, let’s face it…he’s Death. He’s going to be a lonely guy. But, he’s hot. Like super duper hot. And, he’s not what people think he is this time around.
